Creative Writing Novice

"The Harry Potter Dissection"

This 4-week course is perfect for students interested in creative writing. Students will learn the fundamentals of short story writing, including character development, plot design, literary techniques, and editing. Students will use this knowledge to compose a short story. This class is designed to stimulate a love of reading and writing. Grades 4-6.

Creative Writing Intermediate

"The Art of the Short Story"

This 4-week course is a great prep for high school English.  Students will analyze a short story that illustrates the finer points of literary writing. Students will also learn the art of creating complex characters, developing suspense, and using figurative language to enrich a short story. This class is designed to teach students advanced creative writing skills. Grades 7-9.

Lit 100: The Basics of Understanding Literature

Novel Study: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe

This 10-week course is perfect for students wanting to delve into the exciting world of literature. Students will critically read, analyze, discuss, and write about a few literary works, including a novel study of C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Grades 5-7.

Novel Study: Animal Farm

This 10-week course is ideal for students wanting to master literary analysis. Students will critically examine a few literary works (including a novel study of George Orwell's Animal Farm) and learn to write an analytical literary essay.

While the Quills and Quotes program is enriched and rigorous, it is a program for all students. After a written assessment, students are placed in classes according to their writing level. Our teachers are there to help with any struggles. Our goal is for this program to be available to all students willing to dedicate the time and effort required to improve their communication skills.
