Brainstorm Basics: Creative, Persuasive and Expository Essays

Updated: May 5, 2019

All essays should begin with a brainstorm. The easiest way to begin is with a freewrite: write every word related to your topic that comes to mind in 2 minutes. Don't try and edit your words or categorize them, just get them down on paper. Then organize them in the brainstorm below. Research your topic to add details to your brainstorm. Circle your top three main points as these will help generate your thesis and form the body of your essay.
